STANTON JAMES x JAYNE SEWARD, ONLINE FASHION EDITOR- @ APPAREL NEWS THE LOOK: "TO THE MAX"
The maxi skirt is the break out chic look of the season. From the runway to the street, the maxi is effortless and elegant all at the same time. The trend emerged on the Fall runways in collections such as Charlotte Ronson and Peter Som. I also spotted the maxi on the streets during Paris Fashion Week in many incarnations from minimal to boho and vintage-inspired. Karlie Kloss best sported the look in Lanvin’s chic red-on-red combo on the runway for Spring 2011. Designer Alber Elbaz knows a thing or two about dressing today’s modern woman and creating versatile pieces to build a wardrobe – i.e. the recent Lanvin X H&M collab! This vibrant red skirt was one of the chicest versions on the runway for Spring. Think casual yet chic with a t-shirt by day, elegant over a swimsuit poolside and worn as pictured here in a monochromatic combo for the red carpet. I can’t think of a better investment piece for the season.
Key style points: long and lovely, cinched waist, chic, Oscar worthy
To get the look choose a simple yet chic skirt or dress such as MIRIT WEINSTOCK’s “Greek Goddess Dress.” Or for a colorful boho chic daytime look try LOTTA STENSSON’s “Tie Dye Silk Skirt” paired with ANITA ARZE’s “Benny Tank,” an open-toe sandal such as CRI DE COEUR’s “Emma Wedge,” and jewelry such as VERIDIAUM’s Prism crystal ring, cuff or necklace. Statement jewelry can dress up a minimal look for evening. I like the clean modern lines of PEACE IMAGES’ “Selah Charm Bracelet” or “Selah Necklace.”

STANTON JAMES x ALEKSANDR MANAMIS, DESIGNER@ STANTON JAMES THE LOOK: "THE DARK SIDE"
I am an eccentric human by heart; the crazy, the dark, and mysterious has always appealed to me! What most find is too much, too weird – or even plain ugly – is magnetizing to me and I carry a great love for all thing little off!
To me this is a way of life and it reflects in my designs as well as in all aspects of my life! My wardrobe carries great pieces from all over the world and I almost never get ride of anything. I always wear layered clothes – this is somewhat a “shield” to the outer world - which is extremely important to me as I am a very private person, yet intrigued by everyone and anything around me.
Another characteristic is my many rings – to me it’s really “the more the merrier” and I always pick up new “babies” wherever I go - Sometimes I wish I was born with more fingers as I am running out of places to put them!
Black is the one color I wear as I can simply pair anything without putting too much thought into it + it goes along so well with my persona that I really feel wrong wearing anything else! I like clothes that look simple, but, when you look closer, has this “something special”; a hidden detail, a broken button, loose threads, shredded knit etc. etc. that makes it less perfect. To me perfect is not perfect at all!
STANTON JAMES x JEN LANE, ONLINE FASHION EDITOR- I-D MAGAZINE THE LOOK: "BLACK IS BLAND, COLOR IS COOL"
"i am all for wearing black - its 90% of my closet but occasionally i need a change. you dont have to be a walking rainbow - try adding a pastel nail color, a bright bag - something - anything - the day has come to incorporate a little color. I have always had this insane and irrational addiction to animal prints and color + animal print or a classic stripe = genius. A bonus to wearing color - people will smile at you more.“
STANTON JAMES x YENNY, BLOGGER - STUDDED HEARTS(.blogspot) THE LOOK: "SOFT & GIRLY"
Although I'm not the most girliest dresser, I've always been attracted to soft pastels, laces, florals and flowy fabrics.
I think it's always nice to have some girly pieces in your wardrobe, to add a bit of feminine touch! Chiffons, silks and fabricsthat make you feel like a million bucks make up the pieces to get the "soft & girly" look.
STANTON JAMES x MILA HERMANOVSKI, PROJECT RUNWAY FINALIST & STANTON JAMES DESIGNER THE LOOK: "MY FASHION SOUL MATE"
One of my style icons is Kate Lanphear. I love her mix of timeless elements (i.e. she always has a great blazer on, and often skinny pants) with a bit of a rock edge. This is the closest to my personal style. She always accessorizes really well too. You can never go wrong with classic pieces like that in a flattering proportion and some great accessories like a scarf and boots. Fall is the best season for accessorizing!
Love the slightly cropped skinny pants and those great unexpected gold beatle boots! The boyfriend blazer is awesome. Again, my fashion "soul mate": she loves her jackets and blazers. I particularly love the ensemble where she's making leather(?) shorts and thigh high boots look chic (it would be easy to go tacky with that combo) by styling them with a sweatshirt and über-cool peacoat...
STANTON JAMES x LAUREN LEVINSON, FASHION EDITOR @ TIMEOUTNY THE LOOK: "THE STORY OF A BRUNETTE"
I have an affinity for petite brunettes with sweet style, such as Rachel Bilson, Leighton Meester and Lea Michele (perhaps because I'm a 5 ft 2 in brown-haired lady). But all of these women know how to work their height, whether they're rocking short figure flattering frocks with sky-high heels or a long, lean silhouettes (ball-gowns, skinny jeans, etc). They each tend to look polished and on-trend, which is probably why they receive positive feedback from style critics. And finally, they all have amazing, shiny tresses.
STANTON JAMES x ANNETTE RAMOS, FASHION EDITOR @VICE MAGAZINE THE LOOK: "1980 ZEENA LaVEY - THE LOOK OF A HIGH PRIESTESS"
a little forward from brooke - my love for VICE goes way back. I used to have to sneak this shit in my parents house. brit & i are big on cutting pics out of mags n i swear i still have some of the pics i cut out from vice a long ass time ago. needless to say, having them here is v. cool.
annette: "zeea lavey was head of a certain church during the 90's - but she was probably more fitted to be some kind of pinup. homegirls got style. zeena is sexy sexiness. seeing her pics makes my blood rush and send shivers down my spine. interesting pieces shes known for - cut-out designs, black, ultra high stilettos - stoked stanton james is featuring her & showing off individual fashion identities, not just that mainstream shit. if zeena were writing this im pretty damn sure she would choose these (see below) - thanks stanton james - read vice people, it will change your life. peace!"
STANTON JAMES x VALERIE KILLEEN @ BLEACH BLACK (.com) THE LOOK: "UNDONE BEAUTY...BAREFOOT IN GOWNS"
BLEACH BLACK.com has been a daily must-read for brit & i for a long ass time now. its Kristin Reiter and Valerie Killeen's "Conversational Fashion Diary" set-up and fn sick sense of style that keeps us comin back everyday. val and i caught up in-between her trips to new NY & Germany (jealous) to chit chats about some of her fashion inspirations - she shot me over these pics of daria & we had to use them.
todays look is more of a WWDD - "what wud daria do" - get the daria look with pieces picked out by val <3
VAL: "muse | daria: she's this perfect, undone, effortless natural beauty. i adore how she pairs glamourous gowns with old boots and messy beach hair; clearly feminine, but less polished. the balance of both creates this modern-sexy tomboy vibe, that feels really authentic. if daria were here this is what she would wear - "WWDD" ..."
She’s got a thing for waiters, bartenders, anyone on a Vespa or wearing Zadig & Voltaire, but aside from wholeheartedly agreeing with Serena van der Woodsen’s lists of likes and that to which she’ll say, “non”, I’m also enthralled with her personal style. Of course I realize she is a character, but she’s one whose sartorial genius makes me swoon. Take for example her spectacular ensemble strolling Avenue Montaigne with equally chic Blair Waldorf in tow. I love how she’s embraced the Annie-Hall esque trend but made it all her own (read: sexy, fabulous and with a hint of upscale gyspet chic) by pairing salmon-colored menswear trousers with a barely-there tan tank. The whole outfit clearly shows off her most eye-catching assets, and is flawlessy accessorized with a colorful necklace, an of-the-moment belt, a lust-worthy leather bag and, bien sûr, un trèschic chapeau. And let us not forget the final, must-have touch, a black and white shopper filled with goodies from the maison, the myth, the legend (Chanel!)—and some equally fabulous shoes to boot!
To snag a bit of Mademoiselle Van der Woodsen’s je ne sais quoi, try pairing/wearing.....
STANTON JAMES - FOUNDERS, BROOKE & BRITTANY THE LOOK: "EFFORTLESS STYLE"
Brittany & I are actually really excited to be doing this because we want you guys to know more about us. We are working our ass*es off behind the scenes but you cant see us and unless you live in L.A. or Newport you probably don’t know us, butttt now you can start 2 get 2 know us.
Our styles are pretty similar but I tend to be a tad more punk & brit leans a little more boho. That being said – simple always works - at any age. We actually tried this outfit on so we know it looks amaze. Very few components here - first lets start with the shoes because who's not down with a pair of wedges that sport a 6.5" heel? Here they are, TRIYA WEDGE from Yotam Solomon. If you dont have the $ for em, find someone to help you, you need them. We wear ours ummm, all the time. Next, the DRIFTER BLOUSE from Stone Cold Fox. Cold weather is coming so a long-sleeve makes more sense and this deep v cut is something you'll end up wearing w everything. There is nothing it doesnt go with. Throw on those black skinnies and ur about 3/4 of the way done.
Were kinda obsessed w/ piling on the rings, not gonna lie. I think 6 out of 7 days we sleep with them on. NATURAL TURQUOISE CHUNK RING,FREYA and the MAKA are just 3 of the about 7 rings were wearin at any given time. The rest we like to have all silver - some vintage, some from Forever. You know, mixxx it up. Another cool thing about this look - it doesnt require you do your hair all sweet. You can pretty much roll outta bed, put this on and get compliments.
btw, this feature gives us a good chance to say thank u so much for shopping with us!! We seriously love our customers, our partners to the side <--, our staff and everyone who is helping make Stanton James a unique store that shows off some v cool independent designers while also collaborating with blogs, magazines, stylists, models and other artists. Anyways, blah, blah, blah, we r v.v. happy to have you & we thank you!! If you ever need anything - email Customer Care, one of us will help u anyway we can.

STANTON JAMES x FASHION EDITOR @ SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL THE LOOK: "BETWEEN THE SHEETS" Satin dresses are generally tight, stretched taut and gleaming across the female form, revealing every curve, constricting the hips and pressing against the stomach. This is a dream for stick figure models but a glossy nightmare for us mere mortals.
Enter the shine that doesn’t bind. When silken material is allowed to drape and flow, it mimics sex between satin sheets, ribbons of lustrous fabric that glide along the skin without compressing it. It’s sexier, more feminine and very easy to wear.
STANTON JAMES x JAYNE SEWARD, FASHION EDITOR @ APPAREL NEWS THE LOOK: "LOVELY IN LACE"
When I think of chic, Anna Dello Russo is always at the top of my list. The Fashion Editor-At-Large for Vogue Nippon pushes the fashion edge daring to wear the hottest looks from the runway. I love this shot of her captured by Garance Doré sunning in a white lace dress with just a touch of lingerie peeping through.
Innerwear as outerwear is a hot trend for summer and worn correctly, can be incredibly chic. For the not so daring, the look can easily be translated by wearing a lace bra, an over-size lace top or a dress with sheer panels.
For a romantic touch, I recommend the ANTIQUE BLOUSE by Stone Cold Fox paired with shorts or leggings. Also try an easy tank top with the brand’s lace HITCHHIKER SHORTS which are incredibly cute. To create a glam look, Cirque du Cheval’s black HAZEL LACE BACK TOP pairs perfectly with Carmelita Couture’s SPARKLING SEQUINS MINI SHORTS And Mirit Weinstock’s THE CHICEST - LACE BACK DRESS or Cirque du Cheval’s COSETTE SILK & LACE JUMPER are sophisticated looks going forward for Fall/Holiday. Accessorize with a great pair of heels, a statement necklace or gloves.

STANTON JAMES x YOTAM SOLOMON, DESIGNER @ STANTON JAMES
THE LOOK: "CLASSIC ROCK' 'N' ROLL"
Its all about mixing and matching your look, today's fashion is about utilizing an ensemble made by a few designers. The options are endless, but make sure that you wear pieces that work well together. This look is from Burberry's Fall 2010 runway, deisgned by Chistopher Bailey. Known for re-inventing the Burberry line, he has given it a new Rock 'n' Roll look while maintaining their overall classic vibe.
To achieve this look you must use the CAMILE SKIRT from my own line, it maintains the "wrap-like" style that is essential. Choose my skirt in the gray color. Pair the Camile along with the EDYMION SILK SHIRTfrom Elaine Kim, also in gray. A jacket-top is essential for all your fall looks so you must choose one that is versatile and classic in nature. The FULLER WRAP COLLAR JACKET also from Elaine Kim is a piece made of high-quality boiled wool, inject this jacket into your wardrobe and you will wear it often, with many different ensembles. I would choose this in Khaki.
There is no simpler way to re-define a look than thru your use of accessories. Quality shoes and a cool bag should be considered important decisions & should not be overlooked. Use the RAVISHING OVER-THE-KNEE BOOT from Cri de Coeur, this line is dedicated to creating inspiring pieces using vegan fabrics. Eco-friendly is always appreciated. Use the super edgy, SUPER STUD ZIP FRONT CLUTCH from Elly Clay. Choose both of these in black and throw on some tights under to eliminate the space between boot & skirt. A high-fashion look for the high-cultured.
STANTON JAMES x ANGELA FINK, STYLIST @ WHO WHAT WEAR'S, ANGELA FINK
THE LOOK: "DISHEVELED & DAINTY"
I am loving the vintage lace with a rough, distressed brown wrap belt. As we have been seeing for a couple of seasons the frill with hardware is big. Floral dresses and boots last season is now re-inventing itself with lace, leather & something you would find in a vintage store in Texas, cowboy wear !
For starters - the Jack Rabbit Collection QUADROFINA 4-LAYER WRAP BELT, the Stone Cold Fox ANTIQUE BLOUSE or the Stone Cold Fox WHITE DAISY SWING TANK. And, I would recommend layering it with another lacey, dainty piece or a faux fur coat, it gives it that feel that you just raided your grandma's closet. Some things that work are the GYPSET SHAWL from Stone Cold Fox and / or the FURRY FRIENDS COAT from For Love and Lemons and I'm all about layering the sweet, dainty jewelry with gold, studs and whatever else you can throw into the mix.
Now put on some feel good music and invite some people over because you were born to rock.
STANTON JAMES x VAN VAN, CELEB STYLIST THE LOOK: "MILITARY HIPPIE NOUVEAU"
Rock The “Millitary hippie nouveau” look! Long stressful days, fresh summer nights. Right after work, Hit the streets feeling amazing at every hour! Check out this outfit I put together from the AMAZING selection they have at Stanton James inspired by the Military Hippie nouveau look for this Summer.
STANTON JAMES x FASHION EDITOR @ SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL THE LOOK: "SUN SHINE" DAY GLAM"
Take "after six" gold and glitz and make it beach-worthy by pairing it with a cas tank and some chunky bangles. Works for red carpet or lazy summer day and is just young enough for twenty something chicks yet cheeky enough for those of us who are a bit more seasoned.
STANTON JAMES x JAYNE SEWARD, FASHION EDITOR @ APPAREL NEWS THE LOOK: "MOTO CHIC" Moto chic is the look going forward for Fall. And creating a unique version of the trend requires re-mixing the essentials the leather biker jacket, the tank dress, studded anything (a jacket, cuff or belt will do) and moto jeans - preferably shredded.
STANTON JAMES x ANGELA FINK, STYLIST @ WHO WHAT WEAR THE LOOK: "MILITARY INSPIRED BOHO"
Rings, fringe and the cargo jacket are the key pieces here.
Accessories first, SJ has some perfect rings, THE MAKA RING has a vintage-feel and is wrapped in in wire, dont stress about sizing too much, the wire has "give". FREYA is a 2-finger ring that is connected by chain. Another ring that you need is this HAMMERED SILVER one and the NEW ONE designed by BLEACH BLACK. Last but most important is the TALON RING by Leviticus. For necklaces, Mickey Lynn makes GREAT BEADED ones that will last you forever.
Fringe like this is classic, I suggest the CLAPET SWING TANK from Stone Cold Fox. Its faux suede and has fringe lining the entire way around. Stanton James & Urban both have great jackets the JESPER JACKET from SJ is beyond sick and at Urban the ECOTE SURPLUS JACKET. For bottoms, pick-up a worn-in pair of vintage cut-offs for during the day and LEGGINGS @ night.
Have fun & dress cute!
